Good stuff!

There are no back seat laws for children in Japan. I think you could even hold an infant in your lap while driving without getting hassled by the police. So not surprisingly Uta's preferred seat is shotgun. Jiji quickly taught him to shift the car from park to drive to neutral. While driving Uta stays extremely focused and content readying himself to change gears. Every time they leave the house together Uta shouts "Let's drive!".

Jiji has also taught him to gamble, pick his teeth with a toothpick, clean between his toes with a washcloth, and enjoy a nicely broiled shrimp. Good stuff.

The lessons learned from Baba are slightly more refined. This morning Baba and Uta were making a colorful paper chain for Tanabata-san (star festival), folding inserts from the newspaper into beautiful inflatable balloons, and sharing an exquitely sweet clementine.
